Trampolines Recalled Due To Risk Of Serious Injuries

Earlier this month, the U.S. Consumer and Product Safety Commission recalled thousands of trampolines due to the risk of serious injuries. Distributed by Bravo Sports of Santa Fe Springs, California, hundreds of children throughout Southern California may be at risk.

At issue, the concern that improperly assembled trampolines may allow the top rails and legs to bend or break during normal use, resulting in a partial collapse of the trampoline. If this occurs during use, a consumer may suffer neck, back, head or spinal cord injures. Thus far, Bravo has received 247 reports of top rails bending or breaking during use, with at least four injuries.

Trampolines are notoriously dangerous with nearly 100,000 children visiting the emergency room as the result of a trampoline accident each year.

Spinal Cord Injury Bill Signed

Earlier this week, Governor Schwarzenegger signed into law a bill extending the Roman Reed Spinal Cord Injury Act. The Act is named after Roman Reed, a Chabot College football player who suffered a traumatic spinal cord injury while playing football.

The Act provides funds to continue California's spinal cord injury research through the University of California. Spinal cord injuries are caused when the spinal cord tissue is damaged, often the result of car accidents, slips and falls, and sports injuries. The decrease in function may include the loss of motor skills, sensory deficits and breathing difficulties.

Nearly 640,000 Californians live with spinal cord injuries The Roman Reed Act will allow the University of California to maintain and expand research in hope of improving the life of those who suffer paralysis.
